The bZ, which has been on the market for a few years now, continues to grow in popularity and benefits from several small but meaningful improvements for 2026 that make it even more competitive. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are now available. The model also receives subtle styling updates, an improved battery, and the addition of a new front-wheel-drive version, which helps broaden its target audience.
The 2026 Toyota bZ lineup consists of three versions, starting with the front-wheel-drive XLE model. This version carries a base price of $48,993. Next is the all-wheel-drive XLE, priced at $56,393. It comes standard with a generous list of features, including 18-inch wheels, Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, a 14-inch display, and more.
At the top of the lineup is the all-wheel-drive Limited version, priced at $64,693. This model benefits from a more refined design along with a wide range of premium features.
The Toyota bZ competes in the increasingly crowded compact electric SUV segment. While the number of contenders continues to grow, Toyota's electric SUV stays the course and, I would even say, navigates this segment with ease.
Rivals: Chevrolet Equinox EV, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Honda Prologue, Hyundai IONIQ 5, Hyundai Kona, Kia EV5, Kia EV6, Kia Niro, Nissan Leaf, Polestar 2, Tesla Model Y, Volkswagen ID.4
I'll admit that, until now, I had some difficulty identifying Toyota's design signature in the bZ. However, the subtle styling updates for 2026 make the model noticeably more attractive while giving it a stronger Toyota flavor. The bZ remains very futuristic without going overboard, and once again, the Japanese automaker has done an excellent job.
Inside, the bZ features a more complex design approach, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The model also stands out for its ride comfort. The Japanese automaker's SUV comes equipped with a 14-inch touchscreen for its infotainment system—one of the largest displays in the segment.
For 2026, the Toyota bZ offers two powertrain options. The front-wheel-drive version is equipped with a single electric motor producing 168 horsepower. This setup is paired with a 57.7-kWh battery pack, allowing the bZ to achieve an estimated driving range of 380 kilometers on a full charge.
The all-wheel-drive version features dual electric motors delivering a combined output of 338 horsepower. In this case, battery capacity increases to 74.7 kWh, with an estimated range of up to 460 kilometers on a full charge—right in line with the segment average.
One aspect I really appreciate about the Toyota bZ is the ability to plug it into a standard 120-volt household outlet. Granted, this isn't the fastest way to recharge an electric vehicle, but it can be a useful backup if 240- or 480-volt charging options aren't available.
Depreciation is higher than with other models in Toyota's lineup
A large number of physical and digital controls, which require some time to get used to
Pleasant and confident driving experience
Highly functional overall design
Generous standard equipment
Impressive off-road driving capabilities
New front-wheel-drive version likely to appeal to a wider range of buyers
True to its philosophy, Toyota has focused on overall balance rather than prioritizing outright performance or maximum range. The bZ delivers strong all-around competence, which is precisely what makes it such an appealing model.
The 2026 Toyota bZ is a vehicle designed to appeal to a broad audience. This electric SUV is far more versatile than it initially appears. It's spacious, comfortable, and its all-wheel-drive system is particularly effective. Not to mention its towing capacity, which can reach up to 3,500 pounds when properly equipped with the Woodland version. This isn't just an excellent electric vehicle—it's an excellent vehicle, period.
